The Simpsons and Fear Through the Media
Kent: When cat burglaries start, can mass murders be far behind? This reporter isn't saying that the burglar is an inhuman monster like the Wolfman, but he very well could be. So, professor: would you say it's time for everyone to panic?
Professor: Yes I would, Kent.

I want everything and nothing.
But I’ve got mandarin cheesecake and Adventure Time, and I’m happy to settle with that.

Hangovers weren't designed for sunny days.
You withered mouth rejects a should-be refreshing drink. Your weary stomach panics with the presence of this cold, non-alcoholic liquid. The sun seems determined to burn your feeble body until you’re a puddle of straight alcohol. The humidity manages to clog your already slow and confused brain. And then your self-esteem chips at itself because you wasted a lovely day painfully lying inside,...

I'd quite like to watch The West Wing again
But do I’m not sure if I can spare 10 billion hours for a TV show I’ve already seen before.

W. W. Norton: Life Advice from Anne Enright's... →
wwnorton: You should flatter people a little. You should at least try. If Joyce was worried about what his Mammy might say, he would never have written Ulysses Never use a big word where a small word will do. Cheer up, we’ll soon be dead. Never laugh at someone’s religion. Never humiliate a man in…

Bad Haircut by Tom Perrotta
(I couldn’t find a copy of the cover with high enough resolution.) I found this novel/collection of short stories pleasantly interesting and easy to read. I think it’s officially labelled as a collection of short stories, but they’re all loosely connected, and Buddy the narrator occasionally refers to characters from previous stories. It charts significant moments of...

Off to Islay for two weeks to shoot the second part of the documentary. I shall have limited internet access, so will probably write about it all once I return. So long until then.

I find it so strange that rain is water falling from the sky and that we casually accept it. It’s water falling from the damn sky! That’s ridiculous and amazing.

Boris decided to visit me at 6am this morning, puke a fur ball on my bed, and leisurely depart. An hour later, after I’d cleaned the fur ball up through bleary eyes, he decided to come into my room again, sit on my chest so our faces were less than a centimetre apart, and purr very loudly. I’m not sure whether to feel insulted or honoured.

Need a good documentary to watch?
I recommend Errol Morris’ ‘The Fog of War’. It’s a biopic about Robert McNamara, who was the US Secretary of Defence from 1960 to 1968. Even if you’re not entirely into the Vietnam War or politics, it still offers a lot of insight into human nature, and he’s a terribly clever and interesting person. I actually first saw it long before today. I re-watched it...

Can anyone throughout all of Tumblr, the internet or universe recommend a good science fiction short story magazine? I’m in the UK so I might avoid American magazines if they cost a bomb to order in. Anyone?
